About

Are you ready to get sickening for a good cause?! AGAIN?!
In an effort to raise awareness of the LGBTQ+ presence in Fukushima and the importance of drag, you are invited to attend or participate in our charity drag event! Despite cross-dressing among Japanese high school students being so prominent, I want to take it a step further and show that some people do this not only for fun but also as a way of true self-expression and even as a career. As ALT`s, it is our responsibility to share our culture with Japan, particularly on less talked about topics. So let`s get together and start a conversation!

The money raised will be donated to ReBit, a foundation who focuses on making sure LGBT kids have a place in society and educates adults on the matter. (http://rebitlgbt.org/)

The event is open to anyone whether you want to participate and strut your thing or simply come, support and have a good time. If you want to participate, please let me know soon. You may choose to dress up even if you're not performing, just please be respectful.

So, what`s drag?
You may have heard the term “drag” from shows such as RuPaul`s Drag Race (or just being a millennial human). Being “in drag” means a person is dressed as the opposite sex (not just men dressed as women). However, as we know, gender can be a very fluid thing so being in drag can mean different things to different people! People have performed in drag for centuries in theaters around the world, both because women were not allowed to perform and also for comic relief. In the modern day, dressing in drag is a form of self-expression for many people and a time and place where they can be their true selves. Most famously, drag queens are known for their over the top makeup, hair, and outfits, especially while performing. Drag shows are popular events in many cities and feature performers dressed fabulously in drag while doing some sort of performance. If you`ve never seen it, this is your chance!

There are still many details to be worked out, so I will let you know of those as they come up.

Thank you and I hope to see you all there!
